As a background Sound piece to the multi media, Deeping Lakes project, I have been working on a Drone with a beat. On top of this will be layered images and Natural Sounds.

The Sounds add texture and colour to the project as a whole and depict the Human interaction with a Natural environment. One is as Natural as the other. Electronic Sounds are as real as the sound waves formed by the wind.

The SoundCloud track is a considerably shorter version of the original which runs for 15 minutesl.

The Twitcher

Winter has arrived and the Painting part of the Studio is colder than usual and not so inviting. So I thought it time to start working on some of the Sound Modules that will be part of The Deeping Lakes Project that I am working on.

During a recent visit to The Lakes I met this wonderful chap thoroughly enjoying the Countryside and wildlife in it. Meeting such passionate people is part of what makes life so worthwhile.

It was not me

I was working on some rhythms for a different track and they were just not working so put them on hold. Later, they immediately sprung into my mind as soon as I started to work on this idea.

I guess that all of my old anxieties and insecurities are being exorcised by these, rather manic, series of works.

Fleeting Glimpses

I have just finished the bulk of the photography for a new, multimedia, SoundArt project that I have been planning for some time.

The project as a whole is based on my impressions of the Deeping Lakes near Spalding, and will incorporate still photographs, Paintings, Sound recordings and Video. It will underpin my philosophy of being an observer who is just passing through, part of the fluidity and fleeting nature of the Universe.

This work will be a major undertaking that will be the culmination of many smaller, single media, projects that I am currently engaged upon and, as yet, can not hazard a guess as to the estimated completion date.

While attending a RadioArts workshop in Margate's Turner Contemporary Gallery, I managed to record a few sounds of the Sea and with some other recordings that I have collected over the years, a morse oscillator and key, put together a piece to accompany some words that wrote a few months ago.

Some projects happen quickly but this one has been simmering on the back boiler for some time.

Much as I try and keep my sounds minimalistic, they often end up multi-layered and over complicated. I hope I stuck to my original brief with this piece and kept it simple.

It's a piece inspired by Alan Butler's book, "Intervention".

Soundscapes of Margate

Just returned from a great weekend in Margate where I attended a Radio Arts Workshop at the Turner Contemporary Gallery. The event was run by Artists Magz Hall and Jim Backhouse from Radioarts.org.uk.

It was a full day of sound recording and post production resulting in Soundscapes of Margate that will be used around the Town and also in several exhibitions in Kent.

On completion, our works were also performed in the Dan Graham Cubes at the Turner Contemporary Gallery which is part of the Tate Modern Gallery. This generated a lot of interest for the visiting public. 

It is not everyday that you can say that you have exhibited and also, been an exhibit, at the Turner Contemporary Gallery.
